I’m a designer challenging different ways of exploring the city.
I am inviting you to explore this ‘between space’ with me as a rightful place and a site that is rich with data.
“With every bit of the city being turned into a commodity and being hermetically sealed, optimised, and controlled, the smooth city leaves literally no space for multiple kinds of voices, ways of life, ways of expressing, or ways of imagining alternatives to be present in the city, let alone the possibility of claiming a part of the city”. Some things that I have done in preparation for this tour include; looking through six very niche, old guide books at the Bishopsgate Institute archive; thinking through making and using a clay extruder to create paths that can be re-walked; reading about the ‘Smooth City’ according to René Boer; exploring the city via smell with Dr Kate McLean; and experiencing the ‘awful’ side of Athens.

Where you'll be
Whitechapel is a district in the East End of London known for its cultural and ethnic diversity. Over the years, it has been home to various immigrant communities, contributing to a vibrant and eclectic atmosphere. The area has a mix of shops, markets, and restaurants reflecting this diversity. In recent years, Whitechapel has witnessed substantial redevelopment efforts that have resulted in the construction of new developments, housing projects, and upgraded infrastructure. Critics argue that this transformation has created a discordant blend of architectural styles and is eroding the area's historical character.
